Man arrested after bomb hoax forces evacuation of Queensgate shopping centre, Peterborough

Bomb hoaxer arrested

A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax following the forced evacuation today of the Queensgate shopping centre in Peterborough.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said – in reporting that the centre is now open again -that the suspected bomb hoaxer is in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough.

He is being questioned about the chain of events that led to the shopping centre and nearby bus depot being evacuated.

Cambridgeshire police say they were contacted by a store manager within Queensgate Peterborough Shopping Centre at about 9.30am today “reporting contact to their head office yesterday about a security threat to their store today.

“Our officers have been at the centre to assist security staff with the evacuation and work is ongoing to establish further detail about the threat and anyone involved.
