A village ‘street pride’ group has asked Middle Level Commissioners to urgently remove a freezer dumped in a Fenland river.

Andy Burrell of Tydd St Giles Street sent a photo of the ‘floating freezer’ to the commissioners today.

“I would like to report a freezer floating along the Main Drain between the Church Lane Bridge and the Sandy Lane Bridge, Tydd St Giles,” said Mr Burrell.

“These contain harmful chemicals and it is gradually getting close to nesting swans, which I understand are protected by the Crown.

“It needs to be removed urgently.”

Street Pride

Street Pride is an initiative coordinated by Fenland District Council and gives volunteers the opportunity to make a difference to their local environment by holding clean up events and getting involved in environmental enhancement projects

There are a number of well-established volunteer groups across Fenland. Many groups have their own Facebook pages to publicise upcoming events and the work that they do.
