Cambridge burglar back in jail after his DNA found on door handle

Andrew Dunkley 'is a prolific burglar with an extensive history of conviction'

A prolific burglar released from prison earlier this year has returned to jail after committing another burglary. On 31 May, Andrew Dunkley, 35, of Ellison Close, Cambridge, stole jewellery, £3,000 in cash and a Volkswagen Polo from a home in Lode Road, Bottisham.

The victim was in hospital when he smashed a hole in the back patio doors and used the key in the lock to open the door.

His DNA was found on the door handle.

Andrew Dunkley was sentenced to two years and five months in prison after previously pleading guilty to burglary and taking a vehicle without consent.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (27 October), Dunkley was sentenced to two years and five months in prison after previously pleading guilty to burglary and taking a vehicle without consent.

PC Samantha Chapman, who investigated, said: “Dunkley is a prolific burglar with an extensive history of convictions for dwelling burglaries in and around Cambridge. Once again, he had been out of prison a matter of months before re-offending.

“He has told the court that he is seeking help for addictions, and we sincerely hope he continues with the programme and turns his life around.”
