Health minister Steve Barclay pops in to wish Gladys a happy 107th birthday

Gladys was born in Chatteris but later lived in March, Doddington and Mepal

Celebrating her 107th birthday today is Gladys Kightly, born in Chatteris and now living a few miles away at Askham care home in Doddington, Cambridgeshire.

In recent days, her visitors have included NE Cambs MP and Health Minister Steve Barclay.

“It was a real pleasure to visit Gladys to wish her well for her birthday and chat to her daughter Sue and to meet the fantastic team at Askham House,” said Mr Barclay.

A spokesperson for Askham said: “We are very happy for her to have received the visit of Steve Barclay, the Secretary of State for Health, and Social Care.

“Gladys is our eldest resident, and we can't say how proud we feel to have been chosen by her and her daughter to reside in our home.

“We wish them all the best in the world, and we would also like to thank Steve Barclay for coming to meet Gladys and Sue, as well as our amazing team.”

Gladys was born in Chatteris but later lived in March, Doddington and Mepal. She was married at Doddington parish church; her husband Stanley died 19 years ago.
