Deputy chief executive, Matthew Warren said: “It’s a momentous day for the project as firefighters move into and respond to 999 calls from the new fire station.

“A huge thanks must go to all those involved in getting the development to where it is today – we now have a first-class fire station and training centre that will provide an excellent facility for our colleagues.”

Construction for the site began in September 2021

The new facilities will replace the station and training centre on Hartford Road, Huntingdon.

At the recent opening of the training centre, fire authority chair Cllr Edna Murphy said: “now have the best possibly facilities to develop firefighters in Cambridgeshire and have a new fit for purpose fire station.

“Special recognition must go to Councillor Kevin Reynolds, former chair of the fire authority, who recognised the importance of our firefighters having the very best facilities, and driving forwards the development with the fire authority to get it where it is now.

The budget for the project was just over £10.5 million.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue plan an open day shortly for the public.
