Only one MP can amend their Facebook page overnight to record the fact they are now “Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Leader of the Conservative Party”.

The next line adds, of course, Liz Truss is also MP for Southwest Norfolk.

“As your Prime Minister, I am confident that together we can ride out the storm, rebuild our economy and become the modern, brilliant Britain that I know we can be,” she wrote.

“I will take action every day to make that happen.”

The new prime minister, featured here during visits to Peterborough and to Newmarket during the election campaign, also thanked Tory party members “for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country.

As of tonight, it had 5,400 members but that can, safely, be expected to grow.
