Inquest opens into Histon mum’s death whose husband is accused of killing her

Huntingdon mortgage broker Robert Hammond has been charged with wife's murder.

A coroner’s inquest was opened in Peterborough today into the death of insurance company boss Sian Hammond of Histon, Cambridge, whose husband has been charged with her murder. The coroner noted the provisional cause of death as compression of the neck, pending histology and toxicology.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed, to allow for criminal proceedings.

The body of Mrs Hammond, 46, was discovered at the house in Primes Corner, Histon, on 30 October.

Robert Hammond, 47, of Primes Corner, Histon, was arrested on Friday (10 November).

He will next appear at Cambridge Crown Court on 11 December.

Sian’s family have described the impact of their loss.

Her family said: “Everyone that knew her would agree Sian was one of the friendliest people you could have the pleasure of meeting, and she will be sorely missed by many.

appeared in court this week charged with the murder of his wife, Sian Hammond, at their Histon home.

Sian was found dead at her home in Primes Corner, Histon, on October 30 and on November 10 Robert Hammond, 47, also of Primes Corner, Histon, was arrested and charged with her murder.

Sian was a financial and mortgage adviser specialist and was principal and director of Lime Tree Financial Services Ltd based in Cambridge.

Her company website described her as having a “wealth of experience in financial services gained from over a decade in the industry. Previous to this Sian graduated with a BSc Honours degree in biochemistry and worked in scientific research”.

Sian has two teenage daughters.

A statement issued by Limetree Services prior to the murder charge, said: “Unfortunately we have to share some devastating news with you all.

“Last week we lost our beloved Sian, wife to James, mother to Katie and Lauren, friend to many and Managing Director of Lime Tree FS.

“Everyone that knew her would agree Sian was one of the friendliest people you could have the pleasure of meeting, and she will be sorely missed by many.

“Please bear with us whilst our team comes to terms with this terrible loss, we will keep everyone updated with the funeral arrangements.”
